SLAG

The responsibility of Florence County Library’s and Florence High School Library, Student Library Advisory Group (SLAG) is to support and increase awareness of Young Adult Services.   SLAG will assist the Librarians in making decisions and providing and maintaining an environment that is fun, friendly, and safe to teens.

SLAG is open to any student in 7-12th grade, and we always welcome new members!

SLAG Goals, Ground Rules and Expectations

Mrs. McBride/Mrs. Weber’s Goals:

  • To bring young adults into the library
  • To develop and assist with young adult programming
  • To aid in all areas of the library’s development including selection of materials
  • To assist in decisions directly affecting the Young Adult Room
  • To assist the community, when an occasion arises
  • To raise funds to purchase Young Adult materials and support programs

When representing SLAG and the library, members must conduct themselves with maturity and respect in such a manner that fairly represents SLAG, its goals and its members

Youth Goals:

  • Make the library more of a “go to” place…where teens want to be!
  • More teen materials/books
  • Make it a better overall library
  • More beanbag chairs

SLAG Ground Rules/Expectations

  • Open Enrollment – New members are always welcome. We just ask that you make a       commitment to SLAG.
  • Members are required to attend six meetings a year (excused absence accepted with phone call) and at least one fundraising event to stay on the mailing list, get Facebook and other online notifications, and take part in SLAG activities. Those members who are absent from meetings for three months in a row will be taken off the mailing list.
  • Meetings are held the first Thursday of the month at 3:30, unless otherwise noted.
  • SLAG Members are asked to follow the SLAG Meeting Etiquette rules
    • To speak raise your hand and address the president
    • Talking is permitted during social time.
    • Members may be asked to leave if they cannot be quiet.
